Hi I’m Troy McClure Mitchell Moss. You may remember me from such online menswear content as “Here’s What I’m Not Wearing Today”, and “Put This On Season 3, Episode 2: The Social Language of Never-Nudes.” Today I’m going to relink a year’s worth of content in the name of doing a “retrospective”; It’s all the same posts you already read, but linked in one place, without all the Spier & Mackay sale alerts filling the space in between. And below that, the top ten most-visited posts this year according to Google’s all-knowing, all-tracking, privacy-invasion bots.
Menswear Musings’ Growth in 2024
In all seriousness, though, 2024 has been good to me, and in preparing this post I went back to the last time I did a retrospective like this (2021) and that growth became much more apparent. For one, it was only in 2022 that I decided to try and make this site into a viable business—in 2021, it was still a hobby and I wasn’t quite sure where I wanted to take it. Since 2022 it’s been growing as a viable business, in large part because of the opportunities I’ve been exposed to by going to Pitti (my first solo Pitti was June 2022, right when pandemic testing requirements were lifted)—meeting people, talking to brands, and building credibility by being there. The overarching goal of my site remains the same: To create helpful content for people who want to up their style game. Doing so in a way that pays me is the only way to maintain this forward momentum, though, so I’m grateful to say it’s an upward trend on all accounts. And I am excited about my potential for 2025.
Here are some other notable facts from this year:
- 12% visitor growth over 2023
- Co-hosted a breakfast at Pitti 105 in January with Atelier Munro
- Sponsorships and brand work is now regular (from brands I personally endorse only; I continue turning down the majority of requests from junk brands who want me to promote them)
- First guest post was published (the skincare guide, by Joshua Davis, who owns a personal styling/“luxury acquisition” company called Monogram Styling)
- We moved back to Cincinnati from Nashville (to be closer to family now that we have two kids) mid-2023, so it’s been our first full year back, and I am enjoying getting to know the city anew
- I got mentioned on My First Million podcast which I learned is a very big deal, which was a nice ego boost
- I launched a Patreon, which members have exclusive access to most of my new in-depth writing, as well as other thoughts, random tidbits and videos I send their way. Join now if you haven’t.
I’ve gone back through this year’s posts and here are links to the ones I felt worth re-posting. Thanks for everything in 2024, here’s to a bigger, better 2025 🥂.
