I’m getting excited about warmer weather, and the attendant fresh clothes that I will be able to wear. Heck, I already mowed the lawn which means spring has officially sprung here.
Now you know me, I’m not a haul or drop-culture guy always interested in what’s new.
Instead for me it’s about building a wardrobe of clothes that’ll last a long time. If you’re just starting, that’ll include some staples/basics. If you’ve got those bases covered, then some of the more out-there options become fun to think about.
So here is a post dedicated to the new drops from Cavour—whose tailoring I own and like, see my review linked here—for Spring/Summer 2023.
Mockleno is a super great open-weave wool fabric with a ton of texture. Scope out the up-close pics to see it. They’re also carrying a more typical hopsack wool:
Made with a floating ful…
Rejoice—Cavour has introduced a higher-rise trouser. Their default Model 2 trouser has always felt a little low, particularly when worn with their Model 2 jacket, whose lower quarters sweep away. These Model 3 trousers are kind of an experiment for them, to see if they’re popular in the market, so they’re only in 3 conservative colors—shades of gray in high-twist fresco wool. Buy them up so they’ll make more in future seasons!
Below are three pairs of blue pants, which seems weird but I’ve been getting inspired by this old Tumblr pic of George Wang. His pants are clearly cotton in that photo, but the color is what I’m inspired by here (and his photo is clearly a cold-weather one, with his layering of a sweater and holding a jacket in his hand while I’m going for spring/summer).
If you dig the very Italian aesthetic of Cavour, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a better suit for the price. Calm twist is a superb high-twist but soft fabric (my dad has a suit from Ring Jacket in calm twist fabric and it’s outstanding):
Another navy suit but this one a bit lighter, and with flat front pants, in a “structured” fabric (the cut is the same soft Italian style as their normal Model 2):
If you dig tobacco linen, the suit below may fall somewhere in the vague definition of such a fabric. Worn casually open collar with a navy sweater draped over your shoulders: *chef’s kiss*
Finally, a fancy jacket for all you fancy people out there. Wear it with white jeans, a blue shirt, chocolate knit tie and suede loafers. Great summer outfit:
This is the last season Cavour is carrying brands other than their own house label. Which means if there’s something from, say, Orazio Luciano or Finamore or Ring Jacket, this will be the last season. I assume whatever has not sold after the spring/summer sales in July will still hang around on the website, but the new collections going forward will be all Cavour all the time.
Has anything caught your eye from this season’s new items at Cavour? If so, what are they? Let me know!
You, sir, are the conservative white bread of men’s fashion blogging. Your style is still stuck in 2016. Lengthen your silhouettes. Hang out less at your church. Buy some better clothes (Spier & Mackay ain’t going to cut it). Quit parting your hair. Otherwise, I think you’re better off posting “ten things men shouldn’t wear” videos on youtube alongside the other midwestern goofs like Modest Man and Tanner Guz.
What an absolutely unnecessary and undeserved comment.
