I’ve just discovered the brand and am quite smitten with the collection. Their cutaway collar single-button popover in particular caught my eye. Their About page spends the majority of its time explaining the specifics of their manufacturing: who, where, how. In Portici, just south of Naples along the coast under the shadow of Vesuvius, it turns out. The story as told on retail are Bombinate says, “Founded in 2015 by friends Oliviero and Anna Laura in Milan, Ripa Ripa redefines the essence of Mediterranean seaside style in terms of utility and aesthetics. Driven by the pursuit of the perfect cut (and the lack thereof!), the co-founders combine fine tailoring and excellent quality in a collection of vibrant men’s swimwear worthy of Italian summers.”
Their origin is based in making swim trunks, but it’s expanded beyond that to include those popovers I mentioned, full button-up shirts and even a sort of utility over shirt.
I gravitate toward solid color swim trunks, mostly because the patterns most companies make them from are uninspiring. Ripa Ripa’s patterns hold appeal to me, however, probably because I’m a sucker for anything Italian. These bold stripes, for instance, or the neat patterns that remind me of ties. Stylish Instagrammer Frank Galucci gives the look its proper due here.
Check out Ripa Ripa next time you’re in need of a new pair of swim trunks or simply just want to imagine being in Italy while you sip a spritz in the heat of the Tennessee summer.
