Here are some stunning coats for consideration.
Way back when, I went through a period where I only had double-breasted outerwear—variations of peacoats, essentially, some being dressier, others more actual milspec—that I tried to leave behind very intentionally somewhere around 2014. I felt that DB coats were too much of a commitment—they’re not only warmer, thus they’re wearable fewer days of the year unless you live in a very cold climate, but I also felt they should be worn buttoned up, not open like a single breasted coat can be easily.
I’m back on the DB train, though. Last winter I bought a navy Polo-style coat (from Polo Ralph Lauren) that I absolutely love. Turns out wearing it open is really cool and you look baller when you do it.
The last few winters, Spier & Mackay has been running a Polo-style coat in various fabrics and this season’s are absolutely crushing it. The retail price is very fair (about $60 more than I paid for my Ralph coat after multiple stacked promotions).
With wildfires raging in the west and Indian summer weather always a threat, it’s maybe a bit optimistic to be ordering heavy winter coats right now.
Then again, we know it will get cold again, and these won’t ship until October anyway—so you’re really just locking in your size while the getting is good.
