- Turn one shoulder of your tailored suit jacket / sportcoat inside out
- Tuck the shoulder that’s still right-side-out into the inside-out one
- Flatten the lapels and align the notches
- Lay the jacket down and smooth it flat
- Layer all your jackets on top of each other, then insert them into a garment bag (I use a zippered one that’s lined with plastic in case anything gets wet)
- Lay the bag on top of all the rest of your clothes in your large suitcase. If you’re taking a smaller bag, you could fold it in half once, which would still keep wrinkling
- When you arrive, the sleeves will likely have wrinkles going vertically down from being folded. Hang it on a hanger, apply a little steam on those (and perhaps on the side of the jacket near the pockets, if there are wrinkles there) and you’re set to go!

The technique looks good, thanks!
Any recommendations on a travel steamer? I had one from a Swedish brand whose name eludes me now, but didn’t do the trick… At home I have a nice stand-up Philips one where I can also hang the clothes and that one works really really well. Not sure if there’s a travel alternative.
Good question. I have no suggestions for such a thing. I figure most hotels, and even most Airbnbs, include an iron, and most irons produce steam, so taking one with me isn’t on my list. I used some clean boxer shorts as an ironing cloth to cover anything I used the airbnb’s iron on when I needed to, and it worked out fine.
