(This is part 1 of a 6-part series on brands I scoped during Pitti 106. Parts 2-6 will be published sequentially, so keep an eye out for those!)

Here’s the story you typically hear about a brand: A storied institution with roots tracing back decades (or centuries), with the youngest generation taking the lead to modernize their catalog, is making moves to reintroduce their iconic silhouettes to the stylish guy who’s looking for a fresh take on classic style.

Manto isn’t playing that game. Instead, it’s a truly fresh take on that age-old story: A couple Italians embark on an entrepreneurial journey to seek out the very best factories in Italy, in a quest to un-muddy the waters surrounding the “Made in Italy” label, which famously gets used and abused to sell just about anything where just a few buttons may be sewn on everybody’s favorite Mediterranean peninsula.

Manto is in the sweet spot for the up-to-date, not-tailored-yet-not-too-shiny, made-in-Italy sportswear you desperately want to exist yet somehow can’t find. Suede shirt jackets, utility jackets and vests; technical outerwear, cashmere and bomber jackets. Their palette is earthy and the styles very wearable. The price point is accessible relative to other made-in-Italy brands that may come to mind.

You can buy Manto at a few online retailers. Button Down SF, Martin Patrick 3 (Minneapolis), The Helm (Alberta), Gabucci, and Baltzar, to name a few. Definitely take notice and give them a try.
