On top of the tailoring, outerwear, shawl cardigans and trousers they’ve brought this season, Spier & Mackay has pulled out a few surprises.
First is a line of field jackets in wool blends in burgundy | brown | emerald green | charcoal | and beige. Field jackets are great as an alternative outer layer if a blazer doesn’t feel right. These are a little dressier, being made out of wool, than cotton drill versions. I have a military-style field jacket from Corridor in a ripstop cotton, which I like because I can wear it doing yard work and just throw into the wash. But the dressier field jackets are nice for dressier occasions.
Second are corduroy button down shirts in off white | navy | light navy | and green. Corduroy as a fabric for shirts is a great way to add a little extra warmth to your fit and bring it down in formality a bit, but these aren’t overshirts, they can be worn with a tie. It’s a look Anglo-Italian has done since the beginning, but if that’s outside your price range, these are a great option.
Finally are long-sleeve polo shirts. With the same size collars as their dress shirts, these are an outstanding value. Long-sleeve polos are awesome to wear under a blazer to dress down an outfit. My go-to outfit is a navy polo, navy blazer and white jeans, usually with suede chukkas or penny loafers.
