A personal post today. My wife and I were recently up in northern Michigan with my family on a vacation to celebrate my parents’ 40th anniversary.
My wife and I will be celebrating 9 years married in September. In fact we honeymooned in the same place my family vacationed this year.
While we were out and about visiting wineries and enjoying the place, I spotted a pull-off where we had taken a photo together all those years ago. I had my dad snap a new one of us together, 9 years wiser, 9 years stronger, 9 years more grateful for what we have, and our family one (soon-to-be-born) member larger.
Whether it’s the shallowness of social media and its narcissistic pulls, or the self-righteousness indignation and anger so rampant in political discourse, it’s worth returning to what truly matters, grounding ourselves in the transcendent experiences that God has given us: life, others-centered love and the joy of doing good.
