(This is part 4 of a 6-part series on brands I scoped during Pitti 106. Parts 5-6 will be published sequentially, so keep an eye out for those!)
Once you discover the old-world crafts of tailoring, it’s hard not to find yourself venturing into the other romantic realms: Watches, pens, or shaving gear. In that last category, I enjoyed learning about a French company which gained notoriety when Napoleon Bonaparte commissioned them to make travel-ready shaving brushes for his soldiers in the field.
Plisson makes the full range of luxury shaving accoutrements that once you experience quickly become necessity. Their badger brushes are things of beauty, with hefty and beautiful handles made of bone, horn, fine metals or precious wood. They make safety razors so luxurious it might make you weep. Or if you want to take your life into your hands, they’ll even sell you a straight razor like it’s 1945 all over again.
I was pleased to meet and chat with the family who continues to run the business—and a family indeed they were, with mother, father and two daughters (one still secondary school-aged) on hand to tell their story and share their products.
As a splurge to treat yourself, or probably better yet as a gift of luxury for someone you love, check out Plisson. They are a wonderful shop whose story is unique and product is the real deal.
