I realized after publishing my “Spring picks” list a couple weeks ago that it was probably misnamed because it was essentially just a No Man Walks Alone new product alert post. So I figured the way to rectify that was to post more stuff I like for spring and summer.
So here are some things from my typical haunts that I like the looks of. Some of the picks are variations on something I already own, some are things I’m looking at buying myself, some are things I like and would buy but have no immediate plans to buy, and some are things I’m intrigued by and want to give a shot, but are a bit outside my comfort zone (those I’ll label).
Organized by outfit combination possibilities.
Summer Brown Sportcoat Lifestyle
SuitSupply light brown linen sport coat—the fabric looks absolutely killer on this. Would be another reasonable lower-cost alternative to the glorious Formosa “Summer Tweed” from NMWA.
SuitSupply dark brown linen sport coat—I bought my chocolate brown Eidos sportcoat before I bought the navy one. It’s just as versatile as navy and looks fantastic with light blue shirts and white jeans.
Brooks Brothers Red Fleece white jeans—My summer staple pants are white or off-white jeans. I rather liked the Red Fleece cut when I tried it.
Spier & Mackay Chinos—Khaki, off-white, coffee and taupe would go with the jackets above. Olive and dark brown would work well worn without a jacket. I haven’t nailed my sizing in chinos with them yet, but on dress trousers I like to go true-to-size in slim fit, and a normal size down in contemporary (i.e. 36 Slim, 34 Contemporary)
Allen Edmonds Sea Island suede penny loafers—The tan color looks awesome and is the perfect summer loafer.
Eidos Lupo—in blue and white from Nordstrom. In a kind of sage green from Barneys (I have one similar to this color and find it works well with a tan/cream jacket). In faded army green or faded blue from Lane Crawford.
Eidos striped blue/white/brown linen shirt—Size 17.5/44, which is pretty big. But if you are a size 17 you could probably get away with it; linen can be great a little loose.
Allen Edmonds Acheson tassel loafers—the same as my light tan tassels (which were sold by Club Monaco under a different name), these beauties in burnished chili are on my list. They’d work well with dark and mid-wash denim as well as chinos, in my opinion.
“It’s Too Hot For a Jacket” Lifestyle
Eidos off-white short-sleeve jersey polo, S / M
Eidos light blue short-sleeve “camicia” polo, S / M
Eidos mid-blue long-sleeve “ladro” polo, M—not unique one-button collar like the Lupo but these look really nice in person
Berg & Berg long-sleeve polos—I really like the long-placket Curt the best. They have recently introduced more casual ones with a camp collar, however, that fit in this category nicely.
Abercrombie khaki shorts—I just prefer Abercrombie’s short silhouette to that of, say, J.Crew
Oak Street Bootmakers canoe moccasin—these are on my list to replace my mostly destroyed Sperry’s.
Spending Time At the Beach Lifestyle
Eidos linen striped 3/4-sleeve tee, M
Banana Republic zipper-fly swim shorts—I have similar ones from J.Crew (in a color very similar to their “retromarine” actually) and absolutely love them. The button front and zipper fly is a feature on much more expensive brands (Orlebar Brown, for instance), and once you experience it, you will never want to go back. I want a pair in navy.
Off-white Soludos espadrilles—I enjoy the toe on Soludos. But espadrilles are pretty ubiquitous (My first pair was from Ropey Soles; they’re slightly cheaper, even with shipping to the U.S., coming in at about $29US.
Casual Eidos Shirt Lifestyle
A bunch of random henleys and stuff I’m intrigued by. These the items I like the idea of, am not sure how I’d wear, but want to give a try anyhow.
