Why?
As a topcoat, it perfectly straddles the line between dressy and casual. Since it’s a raglan with a collar (instead of lapels), it looks right at home with denim, knitwear and other casual pieces. But since raglan coats have been worn with tailoring, it works well dressed up—and it being gray bolsters that ability, since gray is considered an urbane color that historically has connected with clothes worn in the city (vs. the country). I love the applied pockets (versus hand warmers), which gives it a little extra character over just another bal. And it’s $500 less than the similar Drake’s coat.
In short, my favorite coat of all time is my Eidos Chiaia—and this coat hits pretty close to the mark set by that coat.
Do you own it?
No. A friend of mine got this last season and loves it however. If you’re not familiar with Wythe it’s a brand started a few years ago by a product designer from Ralph Lauren, so he knows his textiles and has a strong creative vision.
Alright – I think that’s fair. I did see that Todd Snyder is selling a very similar “car coat” for just under $1k.
know anything about the sizing? I’m a 42R in S&M, and wondering if I should take an L or XL
Based on the size chart and the experience of a friend you should do L. My friend is 40 in tailoring and did a M
